Tries: Blunt (1) Munnings (2) Lamplough (1)
Conversions: Blunt (3) Crawley (1)
After an incredibly bruising encounter last week against Lewes St Francis 2s managed to pull themselves together and achieve a well earned win over the weekend.
With a last minute change of location the Friars had a home advantage against their opposition and this time were fortunate to have a full squad.
St Francis were the first to score when a well worked move from the backs sucked in their defenders allowing the ball to go out wide for one of the Blunt brothers to score under the posts - the conversion then followed.
East Grinstead tried to put the Friars under a lot of pressure with the high ball but Logan, who had an incredible game and is a welcome new player to the team, was not deterred and played brilliant under the pressure catching everytime and counter attacking.
Munnings was the next to go over as a gap was spotted in the East Grinstead defence and he slipped his way through to score.
In the dying moments of the first half the opposition cleverly struck a clearance kick by Joe Blunt and managed to score putting the score 14-7 at halftime.
But in the second half the Friars came out fighting with a superb second try from Munnings and Lampclough added another to get comfortably in the lead 28-7.
East Grinstead launched an assault on the Friar’s tryline on two occasions but were denied both times by the physical Friar’s defence which was solid thoroughout the match until the dying moments which saw East Grinstead slip through to score a comverted try.
The match was hugely entertaining and saw the Friars play their 14th league match this season and with their win this weekend it has left them safely in the league with still some room to push higher if they achieve away wins at Crawley and Heathfield & Waldron who they face later in the month.
St Francis RFC are on the look out to recruit for next season and welcome players of all abilities to get involved with the club. Whether you are new to the game or want to get back involved then get in touch via email email@example.com or via our Facebook page.
