St Francis 2nd XV put a valiant effort in their away game fixture at Lewes for the Salver Cup Final but frustratingly lost out to an incredibly strong Lewes 2s 37-3.
The Friars started strong and pinned Lewes in the opening ten minutes eventually leading to a penalty with scrum half Joe Blunt slotting over the posts.
An onslaught then followed which the Friars tried their hardest to match and despite some brilliant defence against a young and physical opposition the points began to stack up.
As Lewes continued their lead so did their size and experience of their substitutions as they quickly began to turn the screw on the tiring Friars.
With the weather against them and the loss of some key players before the game the Friars had given everything they had and can be proud of their place in the final even if it might have ended as runners up.
“We performed out of our skins today and though the scoreline might not have looked that way we did everything we could against a very physical side”
“I was so proud of every player on the park- they didn’t give up and that shows how far we have come together as a team in a season where we have looked to reboot the St Francis 2nd XV.
A special mention has to go veteran prop Mark Eastman who held his own against props half his age and twice his size” Next week sees the Friars take on second in the league Heathfield and Waldron 3s in another tough fixture as the second string St Francis side continue to break records for their club this season.
