St Francis 2nd XV overpowered by mighty Lewes 2s

St Francis Friars547 Lewes 2

The Friar’s fell to a very talented and youthful Lewes 2s 5-40 over the weekend! Lewes looked to extend their winning ways as they continue to dominate the top of the league table in what was a very physical encounter.

From the kick off the opposition had scored within minutes and for a moment it looked like it was going to be a long afternoon for the Friars. However it was the home side who began to dominate - captialising on the ill discipline of Lewes and gaining territory through a dominate display from the pack they marched their way into the opposition’s half.

Eventually the Friars managed to get over the tryline when Etherington smashed through for his first try of the season. This injected some confidence into the side as they went on to pressure Lewes.

After two unfortunate disallowed tries the Friars had to keep their heads up as Lewes retaliated with a barrage of attacking play after having been pinned in their half for most of the first part of the game.

The second half saw Lewes ruthlessly go up a gear as the Friars began to tire out and the injuries began to amount. Eventually they ran away with the scoreline from some well exceuted breaks through the Friar’s defence.

There were some stand out performances on the pitch from Oli Wiseman in the forwards who was a constant physical threat. Out in the backs Ellis Parsons had a fantastic game at Fly Half and Pablo Woodward was a tackling machine whose defence was vital.

“Lewes were exceptional today and proved why they are the side who are likely to get promoted - with that in mind I was so proud of our team today who once again delivered that ‘never give up’ attitude despite the quality of the opposition” Skipper Minnis said of the game. “We are coming through a long season but we haven’t given up - we will see it through and then look to build for next”

St Francis 2nd XV take on East Grinstead 3s next week and hope to regain a win!
