Happy Ending From Hand finishes the job for the Friars

St Francis Friars2319 BH Sea Serpents

In their 7th outing this season the St Francis 2nd XV The Friars had a lot to celebrate as not only had they managed to secure their second home win of the season but had managed to get the side out in the first place where in their previous season they struggled to even get their 1st XV out. This is how far St Francis RFC has come under new coach's Bob Aldridge's command.

This weekend saw the return of the Friar's vice captain Steven Hand and alongside him the experienced Shadbolt, McCardle, and Griffin.

Hand was the first to go over as the teams battled up and down the pitch in a well contested match. This was answered by a try from the opposition showing how much they loved to run with the ball.

After an illegal tackle the Friars were rewarded a penalty which Matt Graves sailed over. This was followed by a try from scrum half McCardle and suddenly things started to look on the up.

In the second half the Serpents came back with a try and conversion only for the Friars to answer back with a try from Griffin as the forwards continued to dominate.

A further special guest appearance from the Disco Bunny upped the Friars defence as the game got more and more physical. With fourteen minutes to go the Serpents took the lead again leaving the Friars looking at a loss.

However after timely run from the backs saw the Friars gain serious ground and they then camped in the Serpent's twenty two where eventually the wiley Hand stole a line out and crossed the try line in the dying moments of the game.

Skipper Minnis said of the match: "It was an exciting match against an opposition who are clearly growing harder in each match they play. Our old guard performed out of their skins today and gave the platform that the Friars needed to grind out a well deserved win".

The Friars next face Newicks 2s in a home Cup Match on the 18th November.
