The Oscar goes to Newick RFC!

St Francis1524 Newick

St Francis narrowly missed out on the Harvey’s Sussex Cup Final after a 15-24 defeat to Newick.

As always with Newick it was a physical encounter and it was Newick who took the lead in the opening 5 minutes after mauling over from 5 minutes out. This suddenly woke up St Francis and they then continued to pile on pressure on Newick however they could not capitalise on the momentum created.

Nevertheless St Francis got their rewards when Adam Pique went under the posts after excellent link up play from Goodayle and Bruce to give St Francis level 7-7 at half time.

The second half did not start to plan for the Saints as yet again Newick went over from a maul to regain a lead and with St Francis piling on the pressure, Newick capitalised on a St Francis mistake to give them control of the semi-final tie. St Francis did get a consolation try from Darren Shadbolt to bring the scores to 15 – 24 yet St Francis could not convert their pressure or man advantage (from a Newick Sin binning count).

Full credit to Newick they thoroughly deserved this victory, they were ferocious in the pack and St Francis will learn from this.

As the Oscars are coming up we would like to give Newick their very own Oscar – as rumour has it a player from the Newick team was there with his partner and new born (2 weeks old)  baby!

That shows the commitment and togetherness Newick have and St Francis would like to salute you for that!

Newick you played a blinding game! Clearly St Francis were emulating England’s game plan against the Scots…

Here are the rest of the Oscar Winners for St Francis for the Season, next week we will reveal the Razzie Awards :
