A Tale of Two halfs

St Francis1439 St Jacques

Tries: Devlin, Schultz
Cons: Crawley 2

Pitch one saw St Francis host St Jacques from Guernsey. Guernsey joining the Sussex league this year from the Hampshire league.

It was St Jacques who opened the scoring with a well worked try. Nevertheless, St Francis showed how they are developing this year under new coach Bob Aldridge, when Mark Devlin went over to level the score at 7 -7 after excellent work from the St Francis Pack.

St Francis took the lead shortly before half time after a lovely backs move orchestrated by half backs Ben Searle and John McShane; saw Warren Schultz finish off in the corner to give St Francis 14-10 lead at half time.

As the weather changed so did the game and St Francis fortunes. A mixture of debatable decisions and quick thinking from St Jacques saw the game finish 31-14 to St Jacques. On another day, decisions might have gone in St Francis' favour.

Nevertheless St Francis will use their first half as platform to work on.. St Francis had shown when they stick to their game plan, they will be a strong test for any outfit in the Sussex 2 league this season.
